Lizzie's Time to Shine
SKOBFC congratulates Lizzie Wardlaw from the Saints, after her selection to represent the St Kilda Football Club Women's team in an exhibition curtain raiser match before St Kilda v Geelong on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.
The selection recognises Lizzie's great talent whilst also identfying her as a player to watch as the AFL Women's Competition grows in the coming years.
According to team mates, Lizzie is a skillful, intelligent player and lightening quick across the ground. She is a very reserved and humble character.
All from SKOB wish Lizzie the best of luck on Sunday.
From the St Kilda website:
On Sunday 23 April at 12:45 pm a dedicated team of women will live out their dream of playing at the beloved Etihad Stadium, in front of an excited crowd, wearing the Saints guernsey. The newly establish St Kilda Women’s team will take to the field before the Round 5 clash against Geelong with high hopes of taking home the ANZAC Challenge Cup.
While the Saints weren’t granted a team in the AFLW’s inaugural season, we anticipate this will give the women a taste of what’s to come in the curtain-raiser game.
Competition will be fierce as St Kilda and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) All Stars face off.
The Saints team, made up of the best, undrafted AFLW talent from the Southern Women’s Academy, will represent areas including Gippsland and the Mornington Peninsula. For the past five months, these women have been training regularly at Linen House Centre as part of an AFL Victoria Open Age Women’s talent development program. Being named as part of the Saints representative team will cap off a great program for the top 22, who will surely be out to showcase their hard work wearing Red, White and Black.
The ADF All Stars team sees the best talent from the Army, Navy and Air Force women’s AFL teams. With four current AFLW players among their ranks, this team will surely come out ready to play and impress.
Join us, along with thousands of other Saints’ enthusiasts, to cheer on the girls to victory!

Round Two Preview
SKOB makes the short trek to Waverley Oval as they face De La Salle in Round Two of the William Buck Premier Division.
SKOB will look to continue the form that saw them easily account for Uni Blues at the King, whilst De La will be determined to bounce back from its 36 point defeat at the hands of reigning premier Old Xavs.
SKOB's visit to Waverley Park late in 2016 resulted in a 70 point loss with Callum Dooley booting six for the victors.
SKOB Coach Shannon Grant will look to his young emerging players to again lead the charge on Saturday as his side look to make it back to back wins to star the season.

It is with great excitement that St. Kevin’s Old Boys Football Club announces its leadership groups for season 2017.
This year our senior playing group will have Co-Captains, with Anthony Lynch and Nick Wood being given the honour to lead this great club. It’s the 7th season as skipper for club stalwart Anthony Lynch as he enters his 14th season at the club, whilst for Nick Wood it’s a tremendous reward for effort and commitment to the club, having been elevated from vice-captain which he held for the previous 2 seasons. Nick has already taken to the leadership role well, with a dominant round 1 display from the new skip.
Joining Anthony and Nick as leaders for season 2017 are Luke Andrews and Sam Critchley, who have been appointed our Co-Vice Captains. They have set the training standard over pre-season and will bring fresh ideas and passion to the group.
Rounding out the senior leadership group are another couple of club stalwarts in Matthew Murphy and former club captain Ben Dowd.
Our Reserves will be led by Patrick Keely as Captain, with support from his brother Francis Keely as Vice-Captain, the brothers rewarded for years of service and quality leadership.
For our Thirds teams, Charlie Randles has been appointed as Captain, to be supported by James Mustey, Luke McDonnell and Marty Roberts as Vice-Captains.
Our Under 19’s this year will be led by a group of players who graduated from the college in 2016, with Harry Crowe named as skipper. Harry will be supported by three vice-captains – Sam Cameron, Aido Cellini and Michael Pisker. Rounding out the 19’s leadership group are Dom Morgan and Paddy McNamara.
And last but certainly not least, for our SKOB Saints, the club are pleased to announce the appointment of Scarlett Dunell as captain of our Premier team for season 2017. Scarlett’s passion and energy for the game will see her lead this group in their second season for the club. Scarlett will be supported by Samantha Viti, Ali Hynes and Sophie Straford as Vice-Captains. Our Reserves will be led by Britt Croagh as Captain, with Maddy Pattinson and Caitlin Lloyd McDougal as Vice-Captains.
All the best to our leaders for 2017!
Francis Keely joined SKOBs in 2010 while still at St Kevin’s College where he was a member of the 2009 First XVIII premiership team.
After a knee reconstruction in 2011, he returned in 2012 and played both Senior and Under 19 football and was Runner-Up in the U19 B & F Award that year. He was member of the Reserves Grand Final team of 2014 and last season was Runner-Up in the Reserves B & F Award. As a midfielder, Francis is well known as a team player and his reliability, together with his leadership qualities, has resulted in his appointment as Vice-Captain of the Reserves Team this season.
Well done Francis
It's time to acknowledge the volunteers that make our club so great - we thank Stockland for their support of our Volunteer Awards.
Kate Di Natale
Kate volunteers with Lisa Ginies on the Social Events Sub-Committee and also assists with the dinners on Thursday nights, recently making salads and the pasta for our vegetarian players. She assists in a variety of other ways including preparing rolls for the canteen, setting up the game day lunches and has been a great help collating contact details for the Saints players and parents to ensure that all keep connected via the SKOB news.
Kate also happens to be a mother of five, 3 of whom are SKOB players - Paul, Pat and Michael. Pat also coaches the Saints Premier team and John, Kate's husband, has joined the SKOB Committee this year...what a great family effort!
Fiona Barton is one of our fine physiotherapists who has worked with SKOB for a number of years. She often pops in to TH King to ensure all is going smoothly even when not working. On Saturdays she works tirelessly with Brad, our Head Physio with the Seniors and Reserves.
Fiona has the challenging task of coordinating the physios for 10 teams each week, a huge juggling act!
Fi stood on the bench Saturday in the storm and only wanted a cap to keep the rain off her glasses so she could see the game.
Thank you, Kate and Fi!
