This week Ben Dowd, one of SKOBFC’s greatest ever players, achieves Life membership through playing his 200th game. Ben first joined SKOB back in 2004 coming straight from the college, he played both Seniors and U19’s in his first year, and it was obvious very early that we had a special player on our hands. Ben finished R/U in the Under 19 B & F Award despite playing a large number of senior games that year. It was only a few years later that Ben not only became one of the most important players at our club, but he also stamped himself as one of the best midfielders in the competition.

Ben has been a regular Big V representative throughout his career, where he always shone on the big stage, he was named best on ground in the 2009 game against the EFL and was in the best in all other appearances, he also Captained the Big V in 2010 which is a reflection of how highly respected he was within the VAFA. Ben was also named in the All Australian amateur team to tour Ireland in 2008.

It’s at Skob however where Ben has made the biggest impression, as club Captain from 2008 to 2012 he led the whole club forward, driving the place on and off field, ensuring that a strong culture was built and maintained as we moved forward into what it is today. Ben has been a Senior B&F winner and 3 time R/U at our club. He has dedicated his life to our football club over the past 14 years and no one was more deserving in 2015 to receive his premiership medallion after so many years of hard work and dedication.

With an injury sidelining him in 2016, it’s absolutely fantastic to see Ben back out dominating the park again in 2017. An incredible achievement to reach 200 games and life membership, Ben you have been nothing short of a legend in our clubs history and you thoroughly deserve everything you get. Your legacy will continue long after you have finished playing and for that the whole club is incredibly grateful.

Ben, you have had amazing support throughout your whole career from your family, in particular Mick, Jane, Paddy and Tim, as well as your beautiful wife Jill and future Skobber little Joshy. As they would be, we are all incredibly proud of you and we wish you all the very best both for this year and the future.
