It is with great sadness that we inform the SKOB Community of the passing of SKOB great John Filgate.

Burton (John) Filgate was one of SKOB’s early champions. He commenced in 1952, only 5 years after SKOB’s first entered a team in the VAFA.

He went on to play 154 senior games over an 11 year period.

John was a tall, powerfully built ruckman. In his first year at SKOB, he won the Senior Best & Fairest and was also a member of the D Grade Premiership team. He won the B & F again in the following year and was named in SKOB’s 1950’s Team of the Decade.

John was also a gifted athlete and represented the Old Boys Athletic Club for many years.

The accompanying photo below is of the Senior Team of 1957. John Filgate is in the front row, third from the right. His close friend and Club Captain, Jack Douglas, is in the front row and third from the left.

Our sincere condolences to the Filgate Family, may you always hold fond memories of his life with you.

John's funeral is tomorrow (Wednesday) at St,Clare's Woodhouse Grove,  Box Hill North tomorrow May 10 at 11am.
